How to Keep your Coffee Safe: Storage and Other Things to Keep in Mind

Posted

Coffee lovers know how wonderful it is to wind down with coffee that delights the senses and stimulates the mind. Unfortunately, many people may be storing their coffee in an unsafe way. Read the tips below and keep them in mind to continue enjoying the rich taste and aroma of your coffee while avoiding any possibility of food poisoning or bacteria buildups.

Keep your coffee in an airtight container

Coffee lovers know enough to take great care of their coffee beans, keeping them in airtight containers. The main reason to do this is to keep the taste fresh and the aroma intact for as long as possible. In addition, this will also help avoid the development of bacteria and keep foreign substances from infiltrating the beans.

The best container to keep your coffee in would have to be something which is airtight and made of solid, non-transparent material, such as ceramic. Place the container in a closed cabinet for good measure, keeping direct sunlight away. Remember to store your coffee in a dry place as well, avoiding the fungus-inducing dampness.

Keep the coffee maker in its place

When you’re doing some cooking, the coffee maker may conveniently be near enough for you to grab it to use as a measuring cup. This would mean that you’ll be putting in water or some other liquid in the coffee maker. However, keep in mind that this could result in cross contamination. You might put the coffee maker back without thinking more.

Brewing coffee does not exactly entail a hot enough temperature that can kill all types of bacteria which may result from cross contamination. So, when cooking, use cups for measuring and keep the coffee maker in its place.

Check your milk and other substitutes for expiration

You might forget to check, but the expiration dates of the milk or other stuff you put into your coffee are important things to know about. Once expired, obviously you need to throw them out, as they are dangerous for you. These products can also get contaminated by different types of bacteria, so store them properly in a cool, dry place.

Keep your container or filter box clean

Your filter box and water container are some of the parts of your coffee making process which you may forget about. Keep in mind that these things need to be kept clean as well. Bacteria may build up in these places if you neglect to clean them. Mould could also form in these places if you’re not too careful.

People who use machines that use filter paper may also neglect to take the used coffee grounds and the paper out until the next time they use the coffee maker. This could result in bacteria growth as well, which could arise through time from the wet paper and grounds. Then, when you next brew coffee, you’ll be exposed to the bacteria, so remember to dispose of them properly.

People enjoy coffee because of its wonderful taste and stimulating effect. However, you need to remember that you can also get ill from coffee if you don’t observe proper cleaning and storing. Keep these tips in mind and you will not only enjoy your cup of favorite brew withAdore Coffee’s blends, but you’ll also be able to keep food poisoning at bay.
